Riz Ahmed<\/a> is returning to television \u2014 both in front of and behind the camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazon\u2019s Prime Video<\/a> has ordered a comedy series created by and starring Ahmed. The Oscar winner will play a struggling actor named Shah Latif, who\u2019s on the cusp of landing a breakthrough role when he finds himself thrust into a full-blown existential crisis and trippy conspiracy thriller all at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Daily Show<\/em> and Modern Family<\/em> alum Ben Karlin will serve as co-showrunner alongside Ahmed for the currently untitled, eight-episode series. Jax Media and Amazon MGM Studios, where Ahmed\u2019s Left Handed banner has a first-look deal, are producing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmed won an Oscar in 2022 for best live-action short film for The Long Goodbye<\/a><\/em> and was nominated for best actor in 2021 for Sound of Metal<\/em>. He also won an Emmy in 2017 for his lead role in HBO\u2019s limited series The Night Of<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Video series will be Ahmed\u2019s first regular TV role since The Night Of<\/em> (he had a recurring part on Netflix\u2019s The OA<\/em> and guest-starred on Girls<\/em>, earning an Emmy nod for the latter). He has roles in Wes Anderson\u2019s The Phoenician Scheme<\/em> and a contemporary adaptation of Hamlet<\/em>, in which he plays the title role, on deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmed and Left Handed\u2019s Allie Moore are executive producing the Prime Video series with Karlin, Jake Fuller of Jax Media and Roopesh Parekh. The show\u2019s writers are Ahmed, Dipika Guha (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Black Monday<\/em>), Prashanth Venkataramanujam (Patriot Act<\/em>), Karen Joseph Adcock (The Bear, Atlanta<\/em>), Azam Mahmood (Industry, Ramy<\/em>) and novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza.\u202f <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
